The next meeting is 21st July 2026 and applications will close at noon 23rd June 2026. Please allow sufficient time for postage as late applications will not be accepted. All applications must arrive by mid-day on the closing date. We encourage online applications to arrive as soon as possible before the closing date. Please read the information below before applying for the first time.
Important information
The Charity Commission requires us as grant givers, to ensure that recipients have adequate safeguarding policies and procedures in place. As part of your grant application please therefore attach a copy of your policy. If you do not have a policy but are in the process of developing one please advise as this may be acceptable in the short term. If you are unsure how to go about preparing one please see the useful contacts section of our website.
Please complete the online application form and submit it or print it off to fill in by hand and post. The trustees meet quarterly, usually in January, April, July and October and your application needs to be in 4 weeks before the trustees meeting. All applications MUST arrive by NOON on the closing date.
Eligible applications will be acknowledged with confirmation of the date the application will be considered and if required, further information requested. Money is transferred or cheques are sent to successful applicants within 2 weeks of the meeting. No further correspondence will be sent to unsuccessful applicants.
Reporting
The trustees request that you complete our feedback form on how the grant has been spent and how it has helped the project.

Restrictions

We do not give grants for:
- Capital projects that are for major building improvements.
- Repair of buildings used solely for worship.
- Animal protection charities.
- Charities based outside of the geographical area of interest.
- Medical research.
- National charities making general appeals.
- National charities without a base in the North East of England
We do not give grants for individuals, but we do contribute to the Greggs Foundation individuals in need fund. Applications should be made to them at: The Greggs Foundation, Greggs House, Quorum Buiness Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8BU.
If you are writing to us it should be based on the online application form and include:
- The name and address of your organisation and its registered charity number (if not registered, you will need to provide the name of a registered charity or CVS and its charity number that is prepared to administer funds on your behalf).
- The name and contact details of the person who can talk about the application.
- What type of organisation you are, who you serve and how you benefit the community. Please give an estimate of how many people you think benefit from your work.
- The length of time you have been established.
- How many trustees/committee members, staff/volunteers you have.
- What relationship, if any, you have with similar organisations.
Your main funding source, annual turnover and reserves - A brief description of the project you are currently fundraising for, who will benefit, where it will take place, the cost, how much you would like us to consider and most importantly, when the funding is required.
- Which other funding bodies you have approached and the response you have had.
- A copy of your latest Annual Report and Accounts or, if you are a new organisation, your governing document, and a copy of your latest bank statement.
- If you are making a repeat application, please give details of any grant received from us, how the money was spent and how it helped your project. If you have not yet sent a report, then such a report must accompany the repeat application.
- We may need to contact or visit you regarding your application, so please provide a daytime contact telephone number and an email address.
